Restoring motionto stubborn joints.

A chiropractic adjustment is a hands-on technique used to improve the movement of a joint that isn’t moving as well as it should. At Mathias Health + Performance, adjustments are one tool we may use to help reduce pain, restore movement, and get you back to doing the things you enjoy.

The technique

What is a chiropractic adjustment?

Joints are designed to move.

When a joint becomes stiff, irritated, or restricted, the way you move can change. You may start compensating without realizing it, putting additional stress on surrounding muscles, joints, and tissues.

A chiropractic adjustment uses a controlled force to a joint to help restore motion.

The goal is to improve how an area moves and functions, while reducing pain, so you can move more comfortably and confidently.

Flexion-Distraction

Gentle, controlled movement for the low back.

Flexion-distraction uses a specialized table to gently move and decompress the spine while treatment is applied. It’s a low-force approach designed to improve spinal motion, reduce irritation, and help patients with low back pain, stiffness, and certain disc-related conditions move more comfortably.

Who it’s for

You may be dealing with:

Dr. Mathias performing a neck adjustment
  • Back or neck pain
  • Joint stiffness
  • Limited mobility
  • Pain after an injury
  • Repetitive stress from work, exercise, or sport
  • A recurring problem that keeps coming back
  • Movement limitations that are affecting your golf, training, or everyday activities

Sometimes the problem is obvious. Sometimes it’s a gradual change you barely notice until something starts hurting.

That’s why we don’t treat every patient the same way.

A common question

Do I have to keep getting adjusted?

Not necessarily.

Our goal is to help you understand what’s going on and give you the tools to move forward.

Some people may benefit from occasional chiropractic care. Others may need a short period of treatment while they work through an injury or movement limitation.

The right amount of care depends on the individual and the problem we’re addressing.

We take a less-is-more approach and focus on what you need, not how many visits we can schedule.

A common question

Do all adjustments look the same?

No.

There isn’t one adjustment technique that is right for everyone.

The type of adjustment we use depends on:

  • The joint being treated
  • Your symptoms
  • Your movement
  • Your history
  • Your comfort level
  • What we’re trying to accomplish

Some visits may involve a quick adjustment. Other visits may include more comprehensive treatment and rehabilitative exercise.

No predetermined protocols. No forever plans.

Just the care that makes sense for you.

Questions, answered

What people ask about chiropractic adjustments.

If an adjustment is appropriate for you, it will be part of your treatment on the first visit. Your first visit includes a consultation and movement assessment so we can determine what approach makes the most sense.

Adjustments are designed to be controlled and comfortable. You may experience brief pressure or mild soreness afterward, but your treatment is always adapted to your comfort level.

It may, but it doesn’t have to. The sound is not the goal of an adjustment.

There isn’t a predetermined schedule that applies to everyone. The frequency of care depends on your symptoms, goals, response to treatment, and what you need to get back to doing.

We see it all the time. Many of our patients come in with pain they’ve been dealing with for months or even years. We look at the bigger picture, including movement, strength, mobility, and activity, to determine how we can best help.

Move better, feel better, perform better.

Whatever your goal, it starts here.
