Functional Rehabilitation · Dublin, Ohio

Less pain is a start. Getting your body back is the goal.

Progressive, movement-based rehab built around where you actually are: hands-on treatment and graduated exercise that restore tissue capacity, correct movement patterns, and help keep the problem from coming back.

The approach

What we mean by functional rehabilitation.

This is not a list of exercises printed from a template. It’s a progressive, clinically guided process: understand how you move, identify where capacity has broken down, and rebuild it systematically. Pain relief is the beginning, not the goal. The goal is a body that handles the demands of your life without compensating, bracing, or worrying.

The process

Built from a movement assessment, designed to progress with you.

Every plan starts with understanding how you move, where you’re limited, and what your goals demand. We assess mobility, strength, control, and the movements that matter most to you, then build a progressive program around what we find.

  • Graduated loading: exercise that challenges the tissue without overwhelming it
  • Pattern training: correcting compensations that formed around the injury
  • Reassessment: session-by-session adjustment based on your response

You’re not handed a sheet of exercises and sent home. The plan evolves with you.

Who it’s for

Who functional rehabilitation is for.

  • Acute injuries that need structured recovery to avoid becoming chronic
  • Chronic pain that hasn’t fully resolved with adjustments or passive treatment alone
  • Post-surgical recovery that stalled between discharge and full function
  • Athletes and active adults returning to sport
  • People who’ve tried other approaches and hit a ceiling

What comes next

Rehab that connects to your bigger goals.

Rehab here doesn’t end at no longer in pain. If you want to continue into strength training, golf performance, or longevity-focused conditioning, the provider who treated your injury builds the strength work that helps keep it from coming back. You don’t start over with someone new.

Questions, answered

What people ask about functional rehab.

There’s meaningful overlap, but a few key differences. At Mathias Health + Performance, rehabilitation is integrated with chiropractic care, dry needling, and strength and conditioning under one provider. You don’t move between different practitioners for different pieces of the plan. Dr. Mathias also builds every program from a fresh movement assessment rather than a condition-specific protocol.

It depends on the injury, how long it’s been present, and what you’re trying to return to. Acute issues may resolve in a handful of sessions. More complex or chronic conditions typically take longer. You’ll get an honest estimate at your first visit, and the plan is reassessed regularly.

Not always. Many conditions can be assessed and treated clinically without imaging. If imaging would change the treatment approach, Dr. Mathias will let you know and help you determine the appropriate next step.

Yes, though chronic issues require a different approach than acute ones. Long-standing problems often involve movement compensations and nervous system adaptations that need to be addressed systematically. Progress is usually slower, but meaningful improvement is possible.

Move better, feel better, perform better.

Whatever your goal, it starts here.
